I am JJ Lerma and I am behind Let's Figure This One Out.
Let me begin by saying that I don’t write professionally, nor am I a prolific writer. So spare me any grief about tenses or grammar or form. But I’ll do my best.
I have an active son, who’s preparing for high school next year, and a wife, who helps women get pregnant (yes, you read it right!). The SF Bay Area is home for the last 12 years, specifically, the East Bay city of Fremont. Before that, Manhattan (and yes, again, I left the city that never sleeps for the city by the bay).
I was educated by the Jesuits in elementary and high school, and by the Dominicans in college. My degree in electronics engineering didn’t seem to matter in my career as a Human Resources professional. But the math helped. Somehow. It always does.
Amateur radio is my hobby, which I came back to after a 20-year hiatus. Somehow hearing someone’s voice from the other side of the world, through wireless communication (other than a telephone or the internet) still fascinates me, despite texting and Face Time. And morse code (morse who?)? Ah… the sounds of dihs and dahs. I tried photography, too, but it was beginning to make a hole in my pocket. Besides, I don’t have all day to capture flowers and butterflies and bees. Maybe later in life(??).
I have been active in my son’s school, coaching basketball and volleyball. I was president of the PTG Board, and now sit in the School Board. Then, there are the countless field trips and fund raisers as well. By the time he gets to high school, I’m all pooped out.
Along with the school is my involvement in the parish. I am currently a lector and a member of the Parish Pastoral Council. I once sang with the adult choir, and was also president of the parish Filipino group. I, too, sit in the Board of my local amateur radio club, South Bay Amateur Radio Association (SBARA).
This is who I am. And my stories revolve around these, and much more. Cheers!!!
